  • TWRA WMA Fields
  • Bridgestone/Firestone WMA

    Crops planted: 12 acres of top sown wheat, 7 acres fallow field, and 1 acre of sunflowers

    Hunt dates: Sept 1(at noon).  Same as the statewide season except hunting will end at sunset the day before and during scheduled big game hunts. Drive in allowed only on opening day.

    Directions: I-40, take the Sparta-Cookeville Exit (Exit #287/Hwy. 136) and go south approximately 2 miles and connect with Hwy. 111 S. Go south on Hwy. 111 to the Sparta-Smithville Exit (Hwy. 70) which is just past McDonalds and Wal-Mart; Turn left (east) onto Hwy. 70, go through Sparta, past the Courthouse and up the plateau past the Rock House Historic Site and Scenic Overlook; About one mile past the Bondecroft School turn right onto Eastland Road at Bondecroft Headstart Village; go 6.5 miles past Scotts Gulf Road.

    Catoosa WMA

    Hunt dates: Sept 1(at noon).  Same as the statewide season except hunting will end at sunset the day before and during scheduled big game hunts.

    Lumber Yard Field

    Crops Planted: 7 acres of millet

    • From I-40 exit 320 go North on Highway 298 (Genesis Rd) approx. 5 miles and turn right onto Fox Creek Trail Road.  The Dove field is on the left just past main gate.
    • From I-40 exit 322 go North on highway 101 (Peavine Rd) 1.9 miles and turn left onto Fire Tower Road and follow to main gate.  From main gate go approx.  .25 miles and turn left onto Fox Creek Trail Road.  4 Wheel Drive needed to cross Fox Creek. Go approx. 2.1 miles and field will be on your right.

    Ford Field

    Crops Planted: 7 acres of buckwheat

    • From I-40 exit 320 go North on Highway 298 (Genesis Rd) approx. 7.75 miles and turn right onto Potters Ford Road.  Go approx. 3.3 miles until road tee’s into Peavine\Otter Creek Road and turn left.  Go approx.  .9 mile and turn left onto first road on left.  Go approx.  .4 miles to first field on right.
    • From I-40 exit 322 go North on highway 101 (Peavine Rd) 1.9 miles and turn left onto Fire Tower Road and follow to main gate.  From main gate go approx. 4.25 miles to third road on left.  Go approx.  .4 miles to first field on right.

    Potter Place Fields

    Crops Planted: 26 acres of buckwheat

    • From I-40 exit 320 go North on Highway 298 (Genesis Rd) approx. 7.75 miles and turn right onto Potters Ford Road.  Go approx. and follow 3.3 miles until road tee’s into Peavine\Otter Creek Road and turn left.  Go approx. 2 miles fields are on the left through cabled off road.
    • From I-40 exit 322 go North on highway 101 (Peavine Rd) 1.9 miles and turn left onto Fire Tower Road and follow to main gate.  From main gate go approx. 5.4 miles fields are on the left through cabled off road.

    Chickamauga WMA

    Washington Ferry Unit

    Crops: 5 acres of topsown wheat

    Hunt dates: Sept 1(at noon).  Same as statewide season except hunting will end at sunset the day before and during scheduled big game hunts.

    Directions: Ten miles East of Hwy. 30 & 302 from Dayton.

    Cottonport Unit

    Crops Planted: 10 acres of millet chopped
    NOTE: Fields will not be chopped until second segment of dove season.

    Hunt dates: Sept 1(at noon).   Same as statewide season except hunting will end at sunset the day before and during scheduled big game hunts.

    Directions: Three miles east off Hwy. 30 from Dayton.

    Soddy Creek Unit

    Crops Planted: 10 acres of top sown wheat
    NOTE: Fields will not be chopped until second segment of dove season.

    Hunt dates:  Sept 1(at noon).   Same as statewide season except hunting will end at sunset the day before and during scheduled big game hunts.

    Directions:  From Hwy. 27 & Hwy. 153 near Hixson, TN, take Hwy 27 (North), go 7.9 miles; exit right  on Hwy. 319 (South), go 2.0 miles; turn left crossing Soddy Creek Bridge on Armstrong Road, go .5 miles, turn onto gravel road. Area is on from powerline to end of road. Other directions:  From Hwy. 27 and Hwy. 60 in Dayton, TN.  Take Hwy. 27 (South), go 16.6 miles; exit right and take Hwy. 319 (South).  Follow above directions.

    Cordell Hull Refuge WMA

    Crops planted:    Bullards Creek:  20 acres of bush hogged and topsown wheat; 

    Hunt dates:  Sept 1(at noon).  Open with statewide season except season closed during the refuge closure date

    Directions:  From Gainesboro take Hwy 53 toward Granville.  One mile from Gainesboro turn right onto Hwy 262.  Go three miles and cross Hwy 262 bridge.  Fields on left 1 mile past bridge. Parking is at the signs.

    Hiwassee Refuge WMA

    Crops planted: 25 acres of sunflower, 15 acres of millet and 10 acres corn.

    Hunt dates: Sept 1, 14 only. Hunting is allowed from noon to sunset only.

    On Saturday, September 9, 2017 (Noon - Sunset), there will be a youth dove hunt (ages 10-15) on Hiwassee Refuge WMA. All youth must be accompanied by a non-hunting adult at least 21 years of age. Steel shot is required.​

    Register For the Event (include the young hunter's name, age and a phone number, non-hunting adult's name, and an email address). Hunters may also call Brenda York at the TWRA Region 3 Office to register as well - (931) 484-9571. 

    Directions: From Hwy 58 and Hwy 60 near Georgetown, TN take Hwy 60 West, go 6.7 miles and turn right onto Old Hwy 60. Go 0.7 miles and turn right onto Blythe Ferry Road. Go 0.4 miles and turn left onto Meigs County Road 163. Take right fork to parking area. From Hwy 27 and Hwy 60 in Dayton, TN take Hwy 60 East. Go 8.3 miles and turn left onto Old Hwy 60. Follow directions as given above.

    WMA Small Game Permit required. No access is permitted by boat. Nontoxic shot is required for hunting doves.

    Jackson Swamp WMA

    Crops planted:15 acres sunflower, 25  acres of millet

    Hunt dates:  Sept. 1(at noon) by hand-held drawing.  Sept. 2 through remainder of statewide season, same as statewide regulations.  Drawing to be conducted on Aug. 26 at Independence Community Center. Drawing sign-up begins at 4 p.m. local time. Drawing will be held at 5 p.m. local time, with approximately 50 hunters being drawn. Hunters must be present to be drawn. 

    Directions: From Livingston take Hwy 111 toward Byrdstown. Turn left (west) onto Hwy 294. Take Hwy 294 for 5.3 miles and turn left at the Independence Community Center. From this road go 0.3 miles and turn right at the Jackson Swamp WMA sign.

    McGlothin-Largen WMA

    Crops planted:  8 acres of top sown wheat.

    Hunt dates: Sept. 1 and 4 only. Noon to sunset only on Sept. 1. NOTE: Early goose and early wood duck/teal season is closed on this WMA.

    Directions: From the Midtown Exit on Interstate 40 (Exit 350). Travel east on Hwy.70 for 1.6 miles. Turn right on Bluff Road at the Rocky Top Market immediately before the Clinch River and travel 2.0 miles. Turn left on Bowman’s Bend Road and travel 1.8 miles. From the intersection of Hwy. 58 and Hwy. 70 in Kingston. Travel west on Hwy. 70 for 1.7 miles. Turn left on Bluff Road at the Rocky Top Market immediately across the Clinch River and travel 2.0 miles. Turn left on Bowman’s Bend Road and travel 1.8 miles

    McKinley Branch/Lock Bottoms/TVA Public Hunting Area

    Crops planted: 15 acres of top sown wheat, 20 acres corn , and 15 acres of sunflowers.

    Hunt dates:  Sept 1 (at noon),  Same as statewide season

    Directions: Near HWY 30 bridge between Decatur and Dayton on HWY 30 in Meigs Co.

    North Chickamauga Creek WMA

    Varner Unit

    Crops planted: 20 millet chopped

    Hunt dates:  September 1(at noon) and each Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday during the statewide season.  Hunting is allowed only from noon to sunset each hunting day.  No dove hunters or dove hunting equipment on dove fields prior to 7 am on opening day of the first segment of the dove season.

    Directions: From I-75 go north on Hwy. 153 and cross Chickamauga Dam. Go to the 2nd red light and turn right onto Hamill Road. Cross N. Chickamauga Creek and turn left on Cassandra Smith Road. Go approximately 0.6 mile and turn between the yellow/brown boundary stakes past an old dairy farm. Park in the gravel area at the end of the road.

    Rogers Unit

    Crops planted: 10 acres millet chopped

    Hunt dates:  September 1(at noon) and each Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday during the statewide season.  Hunting is allowed only from noon to sunset each hunting day.  No dove hunters or dove hunting equipment on dove fields prior to 7 am on opening day of the first segment of the dove season.

    Directions:
    From the Chickamauga Dam, go west on Hwy. 153. Turn right onto Hixon Pike (Rd. 319); go 1.5 miles and turn left onto Middle Valley Rd. Go 0.4 mile and turn left onto Lower Mill Road. Go 0.2 mile to the Rogers Tract on the left at the sign.

    Pea Ridge WMA

    Crops planted: 16 acres of sunflower and 9 acres of bush hogged wheat.

    Hunt dates: Same as statewide seasons. Noon to sunset only on Sept. 1.

    Directions: On Hwy. 70 in Smithville, turn south on Hwy. 146 between the Dairy Queen and Bank. Go approximately 10 miles on this highway (Short Mountain Road). Turn at the sign for Mt. Ararat Church of Christ-Mt. Moriah Baptist Church (hard turn to the right). Go 2 miles to 3 large oak trees, turn right, then next left on gravel road. WMA is marked with signs. Dove field is adjacent to large fishing pond.

    Tellico Lake WMA

    McGhee Carson Unit

    Crops planted:   8 acres top sown wheat.

    Hunt dates:  Sept. 4 noon to sunset.  Young Sportsman Hunting (ages 6-16).  The Young Sportsman must be accompanied by an Adult 21 years of age or older, who may not hunt or carry hunting devices.  Each adult must possess a valid hunting license and area permit.  

    Directions: From Interstate 75, take Exit 72 East. Travel 15.3 miles on Highway 72. Turn Left on Highway 411 North and travel 2.3 miles.  Turn Right on Highway 360 and travel 1.9 miles.* Turn Left on McGhee Carson Road and travel to the first gravel road on Left past orange gate.  There is parking there before you enter field.

    Yuchi Refuge

    Crops planted:  30 acres in sown wheat.

    Hunt dates:  Sept 2 for Young Sportsmen only, hunting from noon to sunset.  All hunt Sept 4 until the end of the first segment.  Entire area will be open, picked corn fields may not be ready for opening day. The Wetland Zone is steel shot only. 

    Directions: From Dayton take Hwy 30 E toward Decatur.  Turn left on Hwy 302.  Go 4.1 mi and turn right on Breedenton Ferry Rd.  Go 3.5 mi and follow signs to field.  From Hwy 68 turn south onto Hwy 302 and go approximately 4.5 miles to Breedenton Ferry Rd.  Go 3.5 mi and follow signs to field.
