Region 3 (Cumberland Plateau) Dove Fields

Bridgestone/Firestone WMA

Crops planted: 30 acres of bushhogged and top-sown wheat.

Hunt dates: Same as the statewide season except hunting will end at sunset the day before and during scheduled big game hunts. Drive in allowed only on opening day.

Directions: I-40, take the Sparta-Cookeville Exit (Exit #287/Hwy. 136) and go south approximately 2 miles and connect with Hwy. 111S. Go south on Hwy. 111 to the Sparta-Smithville Exit (Hwy. 70) which is just past McDonalds and Wal-Mart; Turn left (east) onto Hwy. 70, go through Sparta, past the Courthouse and up the plateau past the Rock House Historic Site and Scenic Overlook; About one mile past the Bondecroft School turn right onto Eastland Road at Bondecroft Headstart Village; go 6.5 miles past Scotts Gulf Road.

Chickamauga WMA

Washington Ferry Unit

Crops Planted: 5 acres of topsown wheat and 65 acres of corn silage.
NOTE: Fields are sharecropped fields and may not be ready for opening day.

Hunt dates: Same as statewide season except hunting will end at sunset the day before and during scheduled big game hunts.

Directions: Ten miles East of Hwy. 30 & 302 from Dayton.


Cottonport Unit

Crops Planted: 42 acres of corn silage.
NOTE: Fields are sharecropped fields and may not be ready for opening day.

Hunt dates: Same as statewide season except hunting will end at sunset the day before and during scheduled big game hunts.

Directions: Three miles east off Hwy. 30 from Dayton.


Soddy Creek Unit

Crops Planted: 10 acres of topsown wheat.
           
Hunt dates: Same as statewide season except hunting will end at sunset the day before and during scheduled big game hunts.

Directions: From Hwy. 27 & Hwy. 153 near Hixson, TN, take Hwy 27(North), go 7.9 miles; exit right on Hwy. 319 (South), go 2.0 miles; turn left crossing Soddy Creek Bridge on Armstrong Road, go .5 miles, turn right onto gravel road. Area is on right from powerline to end of road. Other directions: From Hwy. 27 and Hwy. 60 in Dayton, TN. Take Hwy. 27 (South), go 16.6 miles; exit right and take Hwy. 319 (South). Follow above directions.


Sale Creek Unit

Crops Planted: 10 acres of topsown wheat.
           
Hunt dates: Same as statewide season except hunting will end at sunset the day before and during scheduled big game hunts.

Directions: From Hwy. 27 and Hwy. 153 near Hixson TN; take Hwy. 27 (North). Go 15.8 Miles; turn right on Patterson Road; go 0.5 miles. Follow Rock Creek Road; area is on right.

WMA Small Game Permit required on all units.

Cordell Hull Refuge WMA

Crops planted: (Trace Creek) - 10 acres of bushhogged and top-sown wheat.
(Bullards Creek) - 20 acres of bushhogged and top-sown wheat.

Hunt Dates: Open with statewide season except closed during the refuge closure date.

Directions: (Jackson County) From Gainesboro take Hwy. 53 toward Granville. One mile from Gainesboro turn right onto Hwy. 262. Go 3 miles and cross the Hwy. 262 bridge. Fields are on the left 1 mile past the bridge. Parking is at the signs.

Hiwassee Refuge WMA

Crops planted: 25 acres of sunflowers, 15 acres of millet, and 10 acres of corn.

Hunt Dates: September 1, 13, & 16. Noon-sunset only.

On Saturday, September 6, 2013 (Noon - Sunset), there will be a youth dove hunt (ages 10-15) on Hiwassee Refuge WMA. All youth must be accompanied by a non-hunting adult at least 21 years of age. Steel shot is required. Register For the Event (include the young hunter's name, age and a phone number, non-hunting adult's name, and an email address or postal mailing address). Hunters may also call Brenda York at the TWRA Region 3 Office to register as well - (931) 484-9571.

No access permitted by boat. Nontoxic shot approved by the U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service is required for dove hunting.

Directions: From Hwy. 58 and Hwy. 60 near Georgetown, TN, take Hwy. 60 West; go 6.7 miles and turn right onto Old Hwy. 60; go 0.7 miles and turn right onto Blythe Ferry Road; go 0.4 miles and turn left onto Meigs County Road 163; take the right fork to the parking area. From Hwy. 27 and Hwy. 60 in Dayton, TN, take Hwy. 60 East; go 8.3 miles and turn left onto Old Hwy. 60; follow directions as given above.

Jackson Swamp WMA

Crops planted: 15 acres of sunflowers, 10 acres of bushhogged wheat and 12 acres of millet hay.

Hunt Dates: Open with statewide dove seasons. Early goose and early wood duck/teal season closed on this WMA.

Directions: From Livingston, take Hwy. 111 toward Byrdstown; turn left (west) onto Hwy. 294; take Hwy. 294 for 5.3 miles and turn left at the Independence Community Center; from this road go 0.3 miles and turn right at the Jackson Swamp WMA sign.

McGlothin-Largen WMA

Note: Early goose and early wood duck/teal season is closed on this WMA.

Crops planted: 8 acres of sunflowers.

Hunt Dates: Sept. 1 and 6 only. Noon to sunset only on Sept. 1.

Directions: From the Midtown Exit on Interstate 40 (Exit 350).  Travel east on Hwy.70 for 1.6 miles.  Turn right on Bluff Road at the Rocky Top Market immediately before the Clinch River and travel 2.0 miles.  Turn left on Bowman’s Bend Road and travel 1.8 miles. 

From the intersection of Hwy. 58 and Hwy. 70 in Kingston.  Travel west on Hwy. 70 for 1.7 miles.  Turn left on Bluff Road at the Rocky Top Market immediately across the Clinch River and travel 2.0 miles.  Turn left on Bowman’s Bend Road and travel 1.8 miles

North Chickamauga Creek WMA

Hunt Dates: September 1 and each Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday during the statewide dove season. Hunting is allowed only from noon to sunset only each hunting day. No dove hunters or dove hunting equipment on dove fields prior to 7:00 a.m. on the opening day of the first segment of the dove season.

Varner Unit

Crops planted: 15 acres of bushhogged wheat.

Directions: (Varner Unit) - From I-75 go north on Hwy. 153 and cross Chickamauga Dam. Go to the 2nd red light and turn right onto Hamill Road. Cross N. Chickamauga Creek and turn left on Cassandra Smith Road. Go approximately 0.6 mile and turn between the yellow/brown boundary stakes past an old dairy farm. Park in the gravel area at the end of the road.

Tellico Lake WMA

McGhee Carson Unit. 

Crops planted: 8 acres of wheat.

Hunting Dates: Sept. 1, noon to sunset. Young Sportsman Hunting (ages 6-16). The Young Sportsman must be accompanied by an Adult 21 years of age or older, who may not hunt or carry hunting devices.  Each adult must possess a valid hunting license and area permit.                                                      

A WMA Small Game permit is required for hunting.

Directions:  From Interstate 75, take Exit 72 East. Travel 15.3 miles on Highway 72. Turn Left on Highway 411 North and travel 2.3 miles. Turn Right on Highway 360 and travel 1.9 miles.* Turn Left on McGhee Carson Road, and you will arrive at the WMA Office and Shop.

Yuchi Refuge WMA

Crops planted: 20 acres of millet and sown wheat.

Hunt Dates: September 1 - Young Sportsman Hunt only (noon-sunset). September 6 until the end of the segment is for all hunters. Entire area will have cut silage fields and will be available to hunt. The Wetland Zone is steel shot only.

Directions: (Rhea County) From Dayton, take Hwy. 30E toward Decatur. Turn left on Hwy. 302. Go 4.1 miles and turn right on Breedington Ferry Rd. Go 3.5 miles and follow the signs to the field.

From Hwy. 68, turn south onto Hwy. 302 and go approximately 4.5 miles to Breedington Ferry Rd. Go 3.5 miles and follow the signs to the field.

Crops Planted: 60 acres of cut silage. (Jim Farr Farm).

Hunt dates: Monday, Sept. 1 (noon to sunset), Friday Sept. 5, and Saturday, Sept. 6.

Directions: From I-75 south at Exit 60 (Sweetwater exit). Go west on Hwy. 68 for 6.4 miles. Turn left on County Road 250 and travel 4.5 miles. The field is on the left.

Meigs County Leased Field 1

McKinley Branch (TVA Property)

Crops Planted: 5 acres of corn, 6 acres of millet, 7 acres sunflower and 5 acres top sown wheat.

Directions: Hwy 30 from Decatur heading towards Dayton last gravel road on left before crossing the Hwy. 30 bridge.

Meigs County Leased Field 2

Crops Planted: 50+ acres of chopped corn silage with a cover crop of wheat (Sammy Norton Farm).

Hunt dates: Monday, Sept. 1 (noon to sunset), Friday Sept. 5, and Saturday, Sept. 6.

Directions: From Decatur, Tn. go North on Hwy. 58 approximately 4.0 miles.  Turn right on Centerpoint Road and travel approximately 2.0 miles to Pisgah Academy Road.  Turn right, the dove field is on the left side of Pisgah Academy Road.

Directions: From intersection of Hwy. 322 and Interstate 75.  Exit 62.  Go west on Hwy. 322 for 0.4 miles and turn right on County Rd. 202/Pond Creek Road.  Go 3.8 miles to the field on the right.

White County Leased Field

Crops planted: 25 acres of cut silage. (Lyman Jared Farm)

Hunt Dates:Monday, Sept. 1 (noon to sunset), Friday Sept. 5, and Saturday, Sept. 6.

Directions: From the intersection of Hwy. 70 and Hwy. 111 in Sparta, Tn.  Go west on Hwy. 70 for 4.8 miles. Turn left on Old Kentucky Road and travel 2.5 miles.  Field 1:  Turn left on Jared Road for 0.2 miles.  The field is on the right.  Field 2:  Turn left on Jared Road for 0.8 miles.  Turn right on Cashdollar Cove Road for 0.3 miles.  Turn left onto gravel road to find field.
