Customers of McDivitt Motors, Harmed by the Auto Dealer’s Deceptive Business Practices, Invited to Come Forward

State and local officials to interview additional victims for three days

Nashville- The Tennessee Attorney General’s Office, along with the Tennessee Department of Revenue, Tennessee Highway Patrol, and District Attorney General Mark Davidson, are asking consumers who have been harmed by dealings with Covington auto dealer McDivitt Motors to speak with state and local officials over a three-day period next week.

McDivitt Motors and owner Martin McDivitt are under a Temporary Restraining Order issued by the Circuit Court of Tipton County while the State’s Civil Enforcement Complaint, which alleges McDivitt violated the Tennessee Consumer Protection Act and the Uniform Transfer Act, is being considered by Chancellor William Cole.

On Monday, July 8, 2019, the Tipton County Grand Jury returned seven True Bills of Indictment against McDivitt, containing seventy-five felony counts of theft, forgery, criminal simulation, sales tax evasion, worthless check and impersonation of a licensed professional, all arising from the dealings of McDivitt and McDivitt Motors. The charges include Theft Over $250,000, a Class A Felony offense, and allege numerous victims of the alleged crimes.

Investigators believe there may be more customers harmed by McDivitt and are providing an opportunity for them to make an official statement during the time period below. Customers should bring all available documents regarding their transactions with McDivitt.
