“Get Alarmed Tennessee” Smoke Alarm Canvass Set For Clarksville

NASHVILLE – Free smoke alarms will be installed this week in Clarksville on Thursday, July 30 when volunteers take part in the the latest “Get Alarmed Tennessee” smoke alarm canvass.

The Tennessee State Fire Marshal’s Office (SFMO), the Clarksville Fire Department and the American Red Cross are teaming up to visit hundreds of homes this week and install free alarms for homeowners in need. Volunteers are still needed.  

“Partnerships have been vital to the success of the ‘Get Alarmed’ program,” said Deputy Commissioner Gary West. “We thank the Clarksville Fire Department and the American Red Cross for their participation. We look forward to working with many more departments in the years to come.” 

Since its inception in 2012, SFMO and Tennessee fire service partners have distributed more than 81,000 smoke alarms in Tennessee’s high-risk areas. Figures have recently confirmed the 101st saved life from a smoke alarm installed as part of the “Get Alarmed” program. The installation program along with fire prevention education, fewer fires and other factors helped play a role in reducing Tennessee’s fire mortality rate in 2014.

What: “Get Alarmed Tennessee” smoke-alarm installation event. Volunteers are being asked to dress in neat, but comfortable fashion. “Get Alarmed Volunteer” orange emergency vests will be used for identification purposes. Refreshments will be provided

When: 9a.m.-Noon p.m. (CST) Thursday, July 30 2015.

Where: Volunteers will meet near the intersection of Providence Boulevard and Shelby Street in Clarksville.
