2015 State Fire Prevention Poster Contest & Public Educator of the Year Awards Event

Wednesday, January 27, 2016 | 04:33pm

WHAT: The annual poster contest is a longstanding event used by the State Fire Marshal’s Office (SFMO) to highlight and promote fire safety awareness throughout Tennessee schools from kindergarten through the 12th grade. The 2015 poster contest theme was “Hear the Beep Where You Sleep: Every Bedroom Needs a Working Smoke Alarm,” and it corresponded with the National Fire Protection Association’s Fire Prevention Week campaign. The theme was especially pertinent as 70 percent of fatal fires in Tennessee last year occurred in homes with no smoke alarm or no working smoke alarm.

The SFMO received 210 poster entries from 68 different schools. Each student will be recognized with a certificate signed by Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam and a $50 check. Pictures will be taken of each winner with the State Fire Marshal and their sponsoring fire department.
