NASHVILLE – A Van Buren County man faces five years in prison after pleading guilty in December to one count of arson.

On Monday, Dec. 21, 2015, Grady John Kincer pleaded guilty in Van Buren County Circuit Court to one count of arson related to an Aug. 24, 2013 fire he admitted starting in a Spencer, Tenn. home. In addition to a five-year jail sentence, Kincer, 43, must also pay court costs and restitution to the victim for any losses not covered by insurance.

State Fire Marshal’s Office Bomb & Arson Unit investigators were first notified about the incident by the Piney Volunteer Fire Department and worked with Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office on the case.  Kincer admitted to investigators that he started the fire.

“The Tennessee State Fire Marshal’s Office has a zero-tolerance policy when it comes to arson and arson-related crimes,” Tennessee Department of Commerce & Insurance Deputy Director Gary West said.

To report a suspected arson, call the Tennessee Arson Hotline at 1-800-762-3017. The Arson Hot Line is a phone line dedicated to receiving information about suspicious and incendiary fires. It is answered 24 hours a day and you may remain anonymous when providing information. Cash awards are offered for information leading to an arrest or conviction.
