Eleven-year-old Darwen Arkwright has spent his whole life in a tiny town in England. So when he is forced to move to Atlanta, Georgia, to live with his aunt, he knows things will be different - but what he finds there is beyond even his wildest imagination!

Darwen discovers an enchanting world through the old mirror hanging in his closet-a world that holds as many dangers as it does wonders. Along with his new friends Rich and Alexandra, Darwen becomes entangled in an adventure and mystery that involves the safety of his entire school. They soon realize that the creatures are after something in our world-something that only human children possess.

Activities

  1. Darwen Arkwright is forced to move from Northern England to live with his Aunt Honoria in Atlanta, Georgia. Moving away from his home and attending a new school is certainly not easy for Darwen. Have you ever missed home or been afraid to go to a new place? As a family discuss a situation when you were afraid to start something new and how you overcame your fears.

  2. Authors from around the world are coming to Nashville to participate in the Southern Festival of Books October 12-14. A.J. Hartley, the author of Darwen Arkwright and the Peregrine Pact, and Crissy are hosting at a special READ20 Family Book Club event at the festival on Sunday, October 14 at 2:30 p.m. If you cannot attend the event in Nashville, be sure to visit Crissy's facebook page to see photos from the festival!   3. Darwen encounters all kinds of strange beasts in the world of Silbrica. He meets Dellfey, Flittercrake, Scrobbler, Gnashers, Shade and more. You can use your imagination to draw what these creatures might look like. If you send your creations to the First Lady's Office, Crissy will share the most creative drawings on her facebook page!
