Haslam Names Harrington Fifth Judicial District Circuit Court Judge

Governor taps Tammy Harrington to replace W. Dale Young in Blount County

NASHVILLE – Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam today announced Blount County Deputy District Attorney General Tammy Harrington as the new Fifth Judicial District Circuit Court Division One judge in Blount County.

Harrington replaces Judge W. Dale Young who retired in January after a lengthy career on the bench.

“Tammy has exceptional experience in prosecution and litigation from her 15 years in Blount County as deputy district attorney general, and the county will continue to benefit from her public service,” Haslam said.

Harrington has her J.D. from the University of Tennessee College of Law and has been licensed to practice in Tennessee since 1994, prosecuting more than 30 homicide cases.

In the mid-1990’s, she was Assistant District Attorney General, Eleventh Judicial District, Hamilton County before taking her position in Blount County.

“I’m honored and privileged to accept the nomination from Gov. Haslam, and I look forward to this opportunity to serve the community in a new capacity,” Harrington said.

Harrington, 41, serves on various boards and organizations, including: Boys and Girls Club of Blount County, Maryville Children’s Academy, Blount County Republican Party and Blount County Republican Women.

She is married to Joe Harrington, and they have three children: Connor, 10; Abigail, 8; and Hayden Jane, 2.

Details of Harrington’s swearing-in are to be determined.
