The Tennessee Human Rights Commission will be celebrating it's 60th Anniversary on Tuesday, July 2, 2024 at the National Museum of African American Music in Nashville, TN. The theme for the Anniversary is "Honoring our Past, Celebrating our Present, Safeguarding our Future: Marking 60 years of Civil Rights in Tennessee". Taking place on the same date as the 60th Anniversary of the passing of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the event will commemorate important figures and moments of the Civil Rights Movement, celebrate the accomplishments of the THRC over the past 60 years, and highlight the state of Civil Rights today and in the future of Tennessee.

The 60th Anniversary will take place from 5:30 - 8:00pm CDT. The event will feature heavy hors d'oeuvres, refreshments, and special guest speakers. The reception will take place in the Lobby of the National Museum of African American Music and the event program will occur in the Roots Theater. Seating in the Roots Theater will be reserved for Event Sponsors. Additional Seating will be available in the Museum Lobby for General Attendees. Dress code is business formal.

The 60th Anniversary program will a feature presentation of the Jocelyn D. Wurzburg Civil Rights Legacy Award. This year’s award will honor Patricia Inés Robledo of Knoxville. A longtime champion of human rights, Ms. Robledo works as the EL Family Liaison with the Office of the Ombudsman for Knox County Schools and has dedicated her career to creating opportunities for non-English speakers in East Tennessee.

The event program will also feature the “Safeguarding our Future” panel, discussing the state of Civil Rights in Tennessee. The panel will be moderated by Dr. Russ Wigginton, President of the National Civil Rights Museum.
