New Hope WMA

Directions and Description


Site Directions:  From Big Sandy take Main Street for .1 mile and turn left onto 2nd Street, follow for .1 miles and turn right onto Lick Creek Road, follow for .7 miles and turn left onto New Hope Road, follow for 4 miles and the WMA entrance will be on the left.  This is the only access point for the WMA. Lat: 36.295098°N Long: -88.075723°W

The WMA is open all year long during daylight hours, please note hunting seasons.  Access is free however hunting, fishing, or recreational licensing fees may apply.  ATVs are not permitted.

The WMA consists of 88 acres of overgrown fields and has a shoreline that borders Kentucky Lake.  Wildlife viewing opportunities are limited due to the lack of road access. Small game such as rabbits and woodcock are common as well as wintering waterfowl and shorebirds along the lake shoreline. At the South end of the parking lot, an active Bald Eagles nest can be seen in the adjacent pine trees.

Regulations & Dates


Waterfowl hunting from temporary blinds only. No blinds, blind materials, boats, or decoys may be left overnight.

CWD Carcass Transportation Regulations Apply

Big Game, Small Game, and Trapping are the same as statewide seasons.

Fall Turkey - Closed.

Spring Turkey - One (1) non-quota hunt: April 12 – May 4, 2025. One (1) male turkey, counts toward statewide bag limit.

Turkey (Young Sportsman) - Same as statewide season.

Quail - Nov. 2, 2024 - Jan. 15, 2025.
