NASHVILLE - Due to the Level III – State of Emergency in the Eastern region of the State, the Tennessee Department of Correction has deployed several agents to assist emergency personnel in the area.  These officers will work with teams on the ground to identify blocked roads due to downed trees.  The team will also perform “welfare checks” of residents in the vicinity of the fire.

According to Commissioner Tony Parker, “Enhancing public safety is at the core of the Tennessee Department of Correction’s mission.  Our team is always ready to aid our partners to keep safe the communities where we work and live.”

Earlier today, Commissioner Parker suspended home visits of offenders in the affected areas of Sevier County due to the dangerous conditions.  Probation/Parole Officers will be contacting offenders on community supervision who reside in Sevier County by telephone to schedule alternative meetings throughout the duration of this emergency.  Offenders are also encouraged to follow all instructions provided by emergency personnel.  Those who cannot make it to their assigned office are encouraged to contact their case manager for instructions once they are in a safe location.
