HENNING - The holiday season is a joyous time, especially for children. That’s why nearly 100 staff members and 40 offenders at West Tennessee State Penitentiary (WTSP) and the Women’s Therapeutic Residential Center at West Tennessee State Penitentiary teamed up to ensure every child in West Tennessee has something under the tree this year.

Today, December 8, staffers from WTSP dropped off loads of toys and goods for children at the Carl Perkins Center in Ripley, Tennessee. The Carl Perkins Center is a non-profit organization which serves families and children in need across West Tennessee. The WTSP team recognizes the important service the Carl Perkins Center provides, and wanted to lend a hand. More than 90 staff members signed up to donate toys. Additionally, 40 offenders in the facility heard about the drive, and asked to donate funds. In all, a total of 35 children were sponsored and will be provided with the toys, clothing and goods purchased by WTSP staff this holiday season.

“We are committed to the communities we serve,” says WTSP Associate Warden of Treatment Wanda Markland. “I am so proud of the employees here who really stepped up to make sure children in this area have a merry Christmas.”
