WARTBURG – This afternoon, Morgan County Correctional Complex partnered with the Tennessee Department of Labor & Workforce Development to hold a job readiness seminar for soon to be released offenders.

More than 50 offenders within a year of release attended the seminar. Career Specialists teamed up with MCCX Reentry Specialists to teach the offenders necessary skills such as resume writing and interview etiquette as well as provide tips for efficient job searching. The offenders were provided information about programs offering ex-offenders educational and training opportunities after their release from prison.

“Our offenders already have a lot of barriers to get over when it comes to employment just having that stigma of being an ex-offender,” says MCCX Associate Warden of Treatment Jeff Nance. “By offering seminars like the one today, we are helping to knock a few of those down.”

Reducing recidivism through evidence-based programs and continued support after an offender’s release from prison is part of the Tennessee Department of Correction’s ongoing mission to ensure enhance public safety.
