TDOC Teams Up With Community Partners for Offender Resource Fair

MOUNTAIN CITY – The Northeast Correctional Complex (NECX) held its annual Resource Summit earlier today.  Over 150 offenders, all within one year of release, participated in the event.  The offenders were able to network and collect information regarding a variety of post-incarceration resources, including education assistance, vocational training, job placement services and financial planning.  Nearly 30 organizations, including the University of Tennessee’s TPOPS Program, ETSU Educational Opportunity Center, Goodwill of Tenneva, American Job Center, Tennessee Department of Motor Vehicles,  Johnson County Department of Human Services, and the Bristol Lifestyles Recovery Center took part in the event.

“It’s part of our mission to prepare these guys for a successful release,” said Associate Warden of Treatment, Kevin Hampton.  “If they’re not aware of where to go or who to turn to for information and assistance once they are released, they risk going back to doing the same things that landed them here.  Today’s Resource Summit will help ensure their reentry is successful.”

Reducing recidivism through evidence-based programs and continued support after an offender’s release from prison is a part of the Tennessee Department of Correction’s ongoing mission to ensure and enhance the safety of the public.
