Tuesday, January 02, 2018 | 11:43am

On Monday, January 1, 2018, Riverbend Maximum Security Institution lost hot water pressure causing the facility's boiler to go offline.  Emergency procedures were put in place to maintain the living and work environment.  These procedures include the distribution of additional blankets and the installation of portable/temporary heating units.

Assistant Commissioner of Prisons David Sexton shared "the staff and inmates have been extremely understanding and cooperative as we work to fix this inconvenience."  Bobby Straughter, Assistant Commissioner of Operations, praised the maintenance staff for their hard work.  He stated "these folks worked throughout the night in extreme conditions to ensure that everyone was kept safe.  We thank them for their service."

At this time the staff are on site assessing what caused the loss of pressure and will provide a timeline for the complete restoration of pressure.
