Four Officers Assaulted

MOUNTAIN CITY – At approximately 9 p.m. EDT today, a disturbance took place at the Northeast Correctional Complex in Mountain City.  During the incident, several inmates in two housing pods became unruly and combative.  Security staff immediately responded to assess the situation and appropriate security measures were taken.

During the course of the disturbance, four officers received nonlife-threatening injuries and were taken to a local hospital for further evaluation.  “Our thoughts and prayers are with the injured officers and the men and women of NECX,” stated Commissioner Tony Parker.  He goes on to add, “It goes without saying that any threat to the security of our institution or our staff will not be tolerated.  Once the investigation is complete, anyone found to be involved in this disturbance will be investigated and charged appropriately.”

The facility is currently on lockdown and all inmates are accounted for.  The Tennessee Department of Correction’s Office of Investigations and Compliance will investigate the incident.  Due to the ongoing investigation, no additional information can be shared at this time.
