The Tennessee Department of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (DIDD) is the Operational Administrative Agency for Medicaid waiver programs for persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities. DIDD is also the state agency responsible for the administration of other programs that provide services to persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities. DIDD is dedicated to serving people with intellectual disabilities in Tennessee and to supporting their families, caregivers, and providers who deliver the supports and services necessary to promote their personal quality of life.  This position is located at the West Tennessee Regional Office in Arlington, TN.  This position is Executive Service and reports directly to the Director of Health Services and works under limited supervision with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

Summary of Position

The Tennessee Department of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities, West Tennessee Regional Office in Arlington, Tennessee is seeking a physician to advise and represent the department regarding the provision of consultative medical services to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. 

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

• Currently licensed by the Tennessee Board of Medical Examiners

• Specialty in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine (preferred). Other disciplines considered.

• Consultation provided to community agencies through educating activities, while advancing departmental policies and practices

• Consultative medical services to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities

• Ability to influence and motivate others as well as advocate for the medical needs of persons served

• Provide consulting services to other doctors caring for patients with special or difficult problems

• Documenting and/or recording information - Entering, transcribing, recording, storing, or    maintaining information in written and/or electronic form

• Public speaking

• Specialized training in developmental disabilities OR one year of experience in treating people with intellectual and developmental disabilities in a medical setting

• Travel required

• Ability to do research as well as publish scholarly articles
