Montgomery County to Participate in Property Evaluation Program
- Program originates from TNECD’s Select Tennessee Certification Program
- 57 counties have participated to date
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development (TNECD) announced today that Montgomery County will participate in the latest round of the Select Tennessee Property Evaluation Program (PEP).
This round brings the total number of counties that have participated in PEP to 57.
Since its inception in 2015, PEP has helped improve the inventory of industrial sites and buildings across Tennessee. The program evaluates potential industrial properties, advising counties on industrial site improvements and where investments may be most beneficial.
“For years, Montgomery County has been an attractive location for companies looking to locate or expand, and I applaud Montgomery County for choosing to take additional steps to become even more marketable,” TNECD Commissioner Bob Rolfe said. “The Property Evaluation Program has assisted more than half of Tennessee’s 95 counties, and we are pleased to add Montgomery County to the list.”
PEP originated from TNECD’s Select Tennessee Certified Site Program. With assistance from site selection firm Austin Consulting, PEP provides participating counties with guidance on site planning for future industrial development projects.
“The abundant trained workforce in Montgomery County gives them a compelling case in attracting new industrial operations. Yet, with few remaining industrial sites, they are limited in the opportunities to win new projects,” said Jonathan Gemmen, Austin Consulting senior location consultant. “Their participation in the Property Evaluation Program is well-timed.”
PEP includes an on-site visit by Austin Consulting and TNECD, an educational webinar on the site selection process and a comprehensive assessment of the strengths and needs of each community’s inventory of industrial sites. This assessment also offers recommendations to improve marketability.
Montgomery County was selected based on the demonstrated local need for industrial properties and the county’s ability to assemble properties with viable market potential. The application process begins with a submission of a letter of intent, which is accepted at any time. Upon receipt of the letter, interested communities will receive the PEP application.
