Air Quality Alerts

  • The TN Department of Environment and Conservation is issuing a Code Orange Air Quality Alert for ozone for the following areas, valid for May 17th, 2017:

    Chattanooga MSA

    Knoxville / Great Smoky Mountains CSA

    Tri-Cities CSA

    Mid/upper level ridging will continue to bring sunshine to East TN tomorrow. UV levels are expected to reach Extreme for the state’s eastern metropolitan areas. Tomorrow, ozone levels are likely to reach an AQI in the Orange range (101-150): “unhealthy for sensitive groups”. Although general public is not likely to be affected at this AQI range, people with lung disease, older adults and children are at a greater risk from exposure to ozone, whereas persons with heart and lung disease, older adults and children are at greater risk from the presence of particles in the air.

  • A Code Orange Air Quality Alert is being issued for the following MSAs, valid for May 16, 2017:

    Greater Nashville MSA

    Chattanooga MSA

    Knoxville/Great Smoky Mountains

    Sunny skies and dry air is driving ozone concentrations up across Tennessee. Tomorrow, ozone levels are expected to reach an AQI in the Orange range (101-150): “unhealthy for sensitive groups” in some areas.
