Knox Co. Woman Charged With TennCare Fraud

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A Knox County woman is charged with TennCare fraud in nearby Anderson County in a case involving prescription drugs. 

The Office of Inspector General (OIG), with the assistance of the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office, today announced the arrest of Jennifer Leigh Kramer, 35, of Oak Ridge. An indictment charges her with TennCare fraud for filling a prescription for her child’s Lisdexamfetamine, a stimulant used to treat attention deficit disorder, and later selling a portion to an undercover informant.

“This is another example of local law enforcement coming to our office for assistance when TennCare fraud is suspected,” Inspector General Manny Tyndall said.  “We hope that everyone, including local law enforcement will ask for our assistance or let us know when they suspect TennCare fraud.”

TennCare fraud is a Class E felony carrying a sentence of up to two years in prison per charge.  District Attorney General David Clark is prosecuting.

The OIG, which is separate from TennCare, began full operation in February 2005 and has investigated cases leading to more than $3 million being repaid to TennCare, with a total estimated cost avoidance of more than $163.6 million for TennCare, according to latest figures. To date, 2,443 people have been charged with TennCare fraud.
