Alabama Woman Charged with TennCare Fraud

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – An Alabama woman is charged with TennCare fraud for falsely reporting her income in order to obtain healthcare insurance benefits through the state’s managed care program, TennCare.

The Office of Inspector General (OIG) today announced the arrest of Shenita Neishae Littleton, 38, of Section, Alabama. She is charged with TennCare fraud and theft of property over $60,000 in an indictment accusing her of falsely reporting her income to the state in order to obtain TennCare healthcare and prescription drug benefits she was not entitled to receive. During the time period of the fraud, Littleton was a resident of Tennessee.

“Providing false information in order to receive TennCare benefits is a crime,” Inspector General Kim Harmon said. “We work hard to preserve TennCare resources for those truly in need.”                                                                                                                                                                  

District Attorney General Glenn R. Funk is prosecuting. TennCare fraud is a class D felony punishable by up to four years in prison. Theft of property over $60,000 is a Class B felony punishable by up to twelve years in prison.

Through the OIG Cash for Tips Program established by the Legislature, Tennesseans can get cash rewards for TennCare fraud tips that lead to convictions.  Anyone can report suspected TennCare fraud by calling 1-800-433-3982, toll-free, from anywhere in Tennessee, or by logging on to http://www.tn.gov/OIG and following the prompts that read “Report TennCare Fraud.”
