State Accounting Manager Receives National Leadership Award

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee’s Chief of Accounts is the recipient of a prestigious national leadership award. Mike Corricelli, a veteran accounting manager, is the recipient of the William R. Snodgrass Distinguished Leadership Award from the Association for Government Accountants (AGA). The award honors state government professionals who exemplify and promote excellence in government financial management and who demonstrate outstanding leadership.

“Mike is an exceptional accounting professional with a keen vision for efficient operations and the practical leadership skills to operationalize best policies,” F&A Commissioner Stuart McWhorter said. “His professional commitment to the state is exemplary, as attested by his public service career accomplishments.”

In announcing the award, the AGA said Mr. Corricelli has “improved state efficiency, productivity and operations,” and recognized lead roles held by Corricelli in Tennessee’s enterprise risk management and other post-employment benefit initiatives.

As Chief of Accounts in the Department of Finance & Administration, Mr. Corricelli is responsible for maintaining the state’s centralized accounting records, processing state payments and payroll, preparing the state’s financial statements and developing state accounting policy. He was named to the position in 2010, after 15 years with the department. Before coming to state government, he held financial management positions with the Cumberland Museum in Nashville, the state of Indiana and the Indiana State Fair Board, among others. Mr. Corricelli holds a BS in Accounting from Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana, where he graduated Summa Cum Laude.

The AGA’s William R. Snodgrass Distinguished Leadership Award recognizes exceptional leadership that led to improved financial management practices, policies, systems or operations and individuals who have consistently exhibited the highest personal and professional standards.

The division of accounts processes and records all accounting entries in the state's centralized accounting system; prepares and distributes the state payroll; provides cash management advisory services; establishes of state accounting policy and prepares the state's Comprehensive Annual Financial Report.
