NASHVILLE – The Office of Inspector General (OIG) announces that Tina Lowe of Loxley, Alabama, was convicted of TennCare Fraud.

Ms. Lowe became the subject of a criminal investigation after the OIG received information that she had misrepresented her household composition while residing outside Tennessee, an eligibility requirement for TennCare benefits.

Ms. Lowe was convicted of one count of TennCare Fraud for misrepresenting her household composition and residing out of state while receiving TennCare benefits. She was sentenced to two years of supervised probation and ordered to repay $18,893 in restitution to the Division of TennCare.

The Davidson County District Attorney's office, led by the Honorable District Attorney Glenn Funk, prosecuted Lowe's case. Assistant District Attorney Amy Hunter was the lead prosecutor in this case.

"The Office of Inspector General is diligent in our mission to identify, investigate, and seek the accountability of those that commit fraud or abuse against the TennCare program," said Inspector General Chad D. Holman. "The result of this investigation signifies our efforts to protect taxpayer dollars so that they can be utilized for those who truly qualify and rely on TennCare for medical benefits."

Tennesseans can receive cash rewards for TennCare fraud tips that lead to convictions through the OIG Cash for Tips Program. Anyone can report suspected TennCare fraud by calling 1-800-433-3982, emailing Tenncare.Fraud@tn.gov or through the Office of Inspector General website.
