Week celebrates innovation and entrepreneurial spirit

NASHVILLE – Governor Bill Haslam today announced Tennessee has organized the largest number of events focused on supporting local entrepreneurs in conjunction with Global Entrepreneurship Week 2012 (GEW).

Tennessee regional accelerators, business incubators and academic institutions are hosting 75 activities across the state, followed by 74 in California and 68 in Texas, as of the issuing of this release.

Running November 12-18, GEW is the world’s largest celebration of the innovators and entrepreneurs who launch startups that drive economic growth and create jobs.

“This week shows that the entrepreneurial spirit is thriving in Tennessee,” Haslam said. “Passionate innovators across the state are bringing their ideas to the marketplace and transforming them into brick and mortar businesses, creating jobs and economic growth for all Tennesseans. I applaud everyone working to help make Tennessee the No. 1 state in the Southeast for high quality jobs.”

Launched in 2008, GEW has grown to 115 countries with nearly 24,000 partner organizations planning more than 37,000 activities that directly engage more than 7 million people.

Events vary from networking and mentoring sessions to pitch competitions and industry conferences.
