Haslam Announces Grant for Linden Improvement Project

More than $446,000 for downtown project in Linden

NASHVILLE – Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam and Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) Commissioner John Schroer today announced the award of a $446,419 grant for Linden to replace existing storm drainage, curbing and sidewalks along a portion of Main Street.

Phase III of the Downtown Improvement Project will connect and extend west along Main Street (Highway 100/SR 412) as a continuation of the Phase II project, which is nearing the construction phase.

The project will replace existing storm drainage, curbing and sidewalks along a three-block section of Main Street. The sidewalks will feature decorative brick banding to accent the existing brick building fronts. The project also includes new landscaping and pedestrian lighting. 

“This project will further Linden’s efforts to give its downtown a more vibrant, inviting appearance,” Haslam said. “When complete, the project will provide safer transportation alternatives that will increase the sense of community and help future investments in the downtown area.”

“Through transportation enhancement grants, TDOT has funded more than $270 million in non-traditional transportation projects,” Schroer said.  “This program has assisted communities all over the state in their efforts to revitalize downtowns, highlight historic areas, provide alternative means of transportation, and increase opportunities for economic development.”

The grant is made possible through a federally funded program administered by TDOT. A variety of activities such as the restoration of historic facilities, bike and pedestrian trails, landscaping and other non-traditional transportation projects are eligible for grant funds under the federal program.
