Haslam Announces Madison County Parks Grant

Leeper Lane Park receives $250,000 for improvements

JACKSON – Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam today announced a Local Parks and Recreation Fund (LPRF) grant of $250,000 to further develop Leeper Lane Park in Jackson. The next phase of improvements at the park includes a new concession stand, restrooms and new ball field lights.

“Our quality of life is directly linked to the quality of our parks and outdoor spaces,” Haslam said. “Recreational facilities are important not only to Tennesseans but for the many visitors we attract to our state each year. It is great to be here today to celebrate the great work of the Madison County community.”

Today’s announcement is one of the first of 50 LPRF grants that will be distributed throughout Tennessee in the coming weeks. The grants, totaling $6.9 million, are designed to enhance and expand outstanding recreational projects such as parks, community centers, ball fields and playgrounds, and they are administered through the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC).

The Tennessee General Assembly established the LPRF grant program in 1991 to provide local governments with funds to purchase land for parks, natural areas, greenways and recreational facilities. The funds may be used for the development of trails and projects in parks, natural areas or greenways. All LPRF grants require a 50 percent match by the recipient.
