Grant to Assist with Water System Rehabilitation

HARTSVILLE – Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam today announced Hartsville-Trousdale County is the recipient of a Community Development Block Grant that will assist with water system rehabilitation.

“Community Development Block Grants help communities complete projects that lay the groundwork for future economic development opportunities,” Haslam said. “I am happy to see Hartsville-Trousdale County receive the necessary funding to make infrastructure improvements that will not only help the town, but also improve the quality of life for its residents.”

Hartsville-Trousdale County plans to use its CDBG funding to rehabilitate existing water lines and will focus efforts to decrease the nearly 40 percent of water loss the system experiences. Once complete, the new system will work more efficiently and help residents avoid rate increases.

The funds were allocated under a procedure authorized by the Tennessee General Assembly. Allocation of CDBG funds is based on priorities set at local levels where community needs are best known. The CDBG program is administered in Tennessee by the Department of Economic and Community Development.

The grant was approved following an application by Hartsville-Trousdale County and is supported by Sen. Ferrell Haile, Rep. Terri Lynn Weaver and Mayor Jake West.

U.S. Rep. Diane Black also aided in securing the funds.
