Grant to Assist with Water Line Extensions

COPPERHILL – Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam announced Polk County is a recipient of a Community Development Block Grant that will assist with water line extensions. The project will allow Polk County to meet one of its top priorities of ensuring safe drinking water for all of its residents.

“Community Development Block Grants have such a large impact on our rural communities, and I’m happy to see that with this funding, Polk County will be able to help 22 households connect to public water,” Haslam said. “Having the proper infrastructure in place can substantially enhance communities and the lives of its residents.”

The funds were allocated under a procedure authorized by the Tennessee General Assembly. Allocation of CDBG funds is based on priorities set at local levels where community needs are best known. The CDBG program is administered in Tennessee by the Department of Economic and Community Development.

The grant was approved following an application by Polk County and is supported by Sen. Mike Bell, Rep. Eric Watson and Mayor Hoyt Firestone.

U.S. Rep. Chuck Fleischmann also aided in securing the funds.
