Haslam Appoints Goodman District Attorney General for 29th Judicial District

NASHVILLE – Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam today appointed Danny Howard Goodman Jr. of Ridgely as district attorney general for the 29th Judicial District. Goodman replaces retiring C. Phillip Bivens.

The 29th Judicial District includes Lake and Dyer counties.

Goodman, 47, has been General Sessions/Juvenile Court Judge for Lake County since 2002 and began serving as Municipal Court Judge for the Town of Tiptonville this year.

“Danny Goodman’s experience in the judicial system in the 29th Judicial District will serve the citizens of Dyer and Lake counties well,” Haslam said. “We are fortunate to have him for this position.”

“I would like to thank Governor Haslam for having the confidence in me to appoint me to such an important position, Goodman said. “I will give my best effort to do what is in the best interest of the 29th Judicial District. I would like to congratulate General Phil Bivens on his retirement and hope to be able to continue with the same success he has had over the years.”

Goodman was assistant district attorney general in the Dyer and Lake County district attorney general’s office from 2000-2002. He also served as an adjunct instructor in criminal justice at Dyersburg State Community College in 2004. He practiced with Stevens & Associates in Union City from 1999-2000, was a youth services officer in the Dyer County Juvenile Court office from 1996-2000 and was a juvenile probation officer for the Department of Children’s Services from 1993-1996.

Goodman received a law degree from the Nashville School of Law in 1999 after receiving a bachelor’s degree from Murray State University in 1992.

Goodman and his wife, Penny, have two children.
