NASHVILLE – Tennessee Department of Health Commissioner John Dreyzehner, MD, MPH, has appointed Carl Mallory as deputy commissioner for operations. Mallory previously served as a director of The United Distribution Group, overseeing strategic development and product management team support throughout the United States and western Canada.

At TDH, Mallory will have oversight of six divisions including Financial Management, Contract Review, Facilities Management and Capital Projects, Fiscal Services, Property and Procurement and Support Services. He will manage the department’s annual budget of approximately $566 million and will assist the commissioner with day-to-day operations of the department. Mallory replaces Eugene Neubert, who left TDH in 2015 to become deputy commissioner with the Tennessee Department of Finance and Administration.

“We are delighted to welcome Carl to the Tennessee Department of Health, confident his experience in budget management, business plan development and administrative operations with regional, national and international businesses will be of great value to our department and mission,” Dreyzehner said. “He also has a strong foundation in marketing and strategic development, which will help us accelerate progress in improving the health and prosperity of all Tennesseans.”

“Having spent most of my life in Tennessee, it’s an honor to work with Commissioner Dreyzehner and the Tennessee Department of Health in the ongoing efforts to positively impact the lives of all residents,” Mallory said. “As a broad and deep organization, TDH touches every person who lives in, works in or visits our state. I look forward to contributing to the department’s success as it continues to protect and serve my fellow Tennesseans.”

Originally from Greeneville, Mallory received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Communications from East Tennessee State University, where he was inducted into the 2003 Alumni Hall of Fame for his accomplishments in the public relations field. He has been married for 33 years to wife Polly, a native of Kingsport and an art broker for regional fine artists. They have two daughters and a grandson.
