Tennessee TAG Honored by National Guard Youth Foundation

Maj. Gen. Terry “Max” Haston, the Tennessee adjutant general, will receive the National Guard Youth Foundation’s Leadership Award next month at the foundation’s 13th Annual ChalleNGe Champions Recognition Reception.

The event will be Feb. 20 at the InterContinental Washington, D.C.—The Wharf.

Other award recipients named last week will join Haston at the event. They are Roger Lotson, who has been named the Program Director of the Year, and Mrs. Chandra Bynes, who will be honored as Teacher of the Year. Lotson runs the Youth ChalleNGe Academy at Fort Stewart, Georgia. Bynes is a teacher in the Georgia academy.

“These individuals work tirelessly to improve the lives of young people participating in the ChalleNGe program,” said retired Brig Gen. Allyson Solomon, the foundation president. “They are strong advocates for the advancement of the program within the community. They are also representative of many who share this duty and responsibility to our nation’s youth.

”The contributions of former Sen. Sam Nunn of Georgia will be recognized, as will selected alumni of the program.

Since the program’s creation in 1993, it has grown to 40 programs in 28 states, Puerto Rico and Washington, D.C., and has helped more than 155,000 high-school dropouts reach graduation day. More information is at www.ngyf.org.
