278th Armored Cavalry Regiment Change of Command

Knoxville, TN - The 278th Armored Cavalry Regiment, Tennessee Army National Guard, will conduct a change of command ceremony on Sunday, February 3 at the Regimental Headquarters located at 3330 Sutherland Ave. in Knoxville.  The physical location of the event is on the West High School football field directly behind the regimental headquarters.  Army units conduct change-of-command ceremonies whenever a new commander takes charge.

Colonel Jimmie L. Cole, Jr., the13th Colonel of the Regiment has commanded Tennessee's largest guard unit since April 2, 2017 and will relinquish command to Lt. Col. John B. Bowlin. The central rite of this ceremony is the passing of the guidon from the outgoing commander to the incoming commander. By taking the guidon, the new commander signals his or her selfless commitment to the traditions, values, and soldiers that the guidon represents.

In the event of inclement weather, the ceremony will be conducted inside the National Guard Armory.
