Location in Lavergne Addresses Growth in Area

November 1, 2006

Nashville, Tennessee — The Department of Safety has opened a new Driver License Station at 5227 Murfreesboro Road in LaVergne. The station, which began serving customers on Monday, October 30 th , is one of seven that will open across the state in the next 90 days. The other locations will be in Fayette, Fentress, Hamilton , Obion, Robertson and Shelby Counties .

Department of Safety Interim Commissioner Gerald Nicely said, “We’re glad to provide this new resource to people in the area. At the same time, work is underway to find properties where permanent stations can be constructed in these counties. Our long-term goal is to see that every Tennessean is no more than 30 minutes or 30 miles from a driver license station.”

The building which houses the LaVergne Driver License Station is a temporary location that will be used until larger permanent lease space can be built to accommodate both Driver License and the county office of the THP.

Rutherford County ’s other Driver License Station is on Samsonite Drive in Murfreesboro . It serves about 250 customers each day, or approximately 4,000 customers per month. Because of the rapid population growth in Rutherford County , the single location in Murfreesboro was no longer adequate to provide needed services.  The additional location should benefit not only people in LaVergne and Smyrna , but also all of Rutherford County , by relieving some demand at the Murfreesboro site.

Because of LaVergne’s proximity to Davidson County , it is also hoped that the location will provide a service option to some residents in south Davidson County .  There were approximately 175,000 customers served at Davidson County DL Stations last year.

The new Lavergne DL Station is open Monday through Friday, 8:30am until 5:00pm. To reach it:

  • From Murfreesboro : Take Murfreesboro Road to Stones River Road in LaVergne. Turn right, then turn right again into LaVergne Medical Plaza.
  • From Nashville : Take Murfreesboro Road to Stones River Road in LaVergne. Turn left, then turn right into LaVergne Medical Plaza.
