October 2006 Unemployment Figures - County

NASHVILLE – Tennessee ’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for October 2006 was 4.5 percent, down from the September rate of 4.6 percent. County unemployment rates for September 2006, released today, show that 41 county rates decreased, 38 county rates increased and 16 county rates remained the same.

Williamson County again had the lowest unemployment rate in Tennessee at 2.6 percent, the same as the September rate. Clay County had the states’ highest at 8.3 p ercent, up from the September 8.0 percent.

Knox County had the state ’s lowest unemployment rate of the major metropolitan counties in October; 3.1 percent, the same as the September rate. Davidson County was also unchanged, at 3.7 percent. Hamilton County was down in October to 3.7 percent from 3.9 percent in September, and Shelby County was 4.9 percent in October, down from 5.1 percent in September.
