NCDOT To Close Tunnel On I-40 East in Haywood County the Weekend of June 10

RALEIGH ― The N.C. Department of Transportation will close the eastbound tunnel at mile marker eight on I-40 in Haywood County on Saturday, June 10, at 10 p.m. until Sunday, June 11, at 10 p.m. to perform maintenance work. The area affected by this closure is from exit 451 in Tennessee to exit 15 in North Carolina.

Motorists traveling I-40 East will use the following detour:

  • I-40 East in Tennessee to I-81 North to Johnson City, Tenn. Then take I-181 to I-26 East to I-240 East in Asheville.

Motorists needing to access I-40 West or I-26 East should take I-240 West in Asheville.
