Thursday, June 29, 2006 | 07:00pm

The clinic will provide treatment of acute illnesses, management of chronic diseases and referral assistance. Basic lab services and a limited pharmacy will also be provided; however, no narcotics will be maintained at the clinic site.

“We are extremely pleased to be able to provide primary care for uninsured individuals in Maury County and surrounding areas. Tennessee residents who are age 19 through 64, who have no health insurance, and are in need of primary health care are encouraged to call to make an appointment,” said Brenda Martin, Maury County Health Department Director. “Persons age 65 and older who do not have Medicare Part B coverage or other insurance for primary health care are also eligible to receive care.”

The original Maury County Health Department location at 100 Blythewood Drive, will continue to offer the following services: for children – immunizations, Well Child/EPSDT screens, WIC nutrition services, children’s special services care coordination, prenatal and child care coordination and clinical dental services; for adults – prenatal and child care coordination, breast and cervical cancer screening, family planning services, HIV counseling and testing and sexually transmitted disease control.

The county received $1 million toward the construction of a new health department facility on Wednesday, June 28, at a ceremony at the Maury County Courthouse. Currently under construction and scheduled to be complete in 2007, the new building for the Maury County Health Department will ultimately house services currently offered at both the Hatcher Lane and Blythewood Drive locations.

To make an appointment for any health department service, or for more information, individuals should call the Maury County Health Department at (931) 388-5757.
