AUGUST COUNTY UNEMPLOYMENT RATES
RATES SHOW DECREASE IN 74 COUNTIES AND INCREASE IN 8 COUNTIES

NASHVILLE – Tennessee’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for August 2006 was 5.7 percent, down from the July rate of 5.9 percent. County unemployment rates for August 2006, released today, show that 74 county rates decreased, eight county rates increased, and 13 remained the same.

Williamson County had the state’s lowest unemployment rate at 3.5 percent, up slightly from 3.4 percent in July. Lawrence County had the state’s highest at 11.3 percent, which was down from the July rate of 13.8 percent.

Knox County had the state’s lowest major metropolitan rate for August at 4.3 percent, unchanged from July. Davidson County was the second lowest at 5.0 percent, up from 4.8 percent in July. Hamilton County remained the same from July at 5.3 percent, and Shelby County was 6.7 percent, down from 6.9 percent in July.
