NASHVILLE - Tennessee Department of Labor & Workforce Development Commissioner James Neeley announced that G&L Manufacturing in Cookeville was chosen to receive the Governor’s Award of Excellence for Workplace Safety.

“G&L Manufacturing has demonstrated strong commitment to maintaining a safe and healthy workplace,” said John Winkler, administrator for the Tennessee Department of Labor & Workforce Development’s TOSHA ( Tennessee Occupational Safety and Health Administration) Division. “The evaluation criteria for this award are ambitious, and G&L has worked conscientiously to meet and exceed the standards the award requires.”
The Governor’s Award honors Tennessee employers and employees who meet a required number of hours during a calendar year without workplace injuries serious enough to cause an employee to miss a day of work or restrict his normal job activities. The number of hours required is based on the size of the company.
G&L Manufacturing qualified for the Governor’s Award by working more than 100,000 man hours without a lost time or restricted duty incident. The company’s remarkable safety record goes back to August 2005.
