Reinstatements Moving to Some Driver License Centers

Nashville, Tennessee — The Tennessee Department of Safety is adding locations to better serve customers who need to have their driver license reinstated.

Department of Safety Commissioner Dave Mitchell stated, “We realize how difficult it is for those with a suspended or revoked license to work and contribute to our economy without a valid driver license.  Our long-term goal is to eventually move reinstatement services to all driver license centers.”

Effective November 1st, customers in the Nashville, Memphis and Knoxville areas will be able to visit selected  driver license centers for reinstatement services.  In Nashville, customers may visit the Hart Lane and West Nashville Driver License Centers for license reinstatements as well as other full-service driver license needs.  These two convenient locations will allow customers to one-stop shop for all their driver license needs.  The Hart Lane Center is located at 624 Hart Lane and the West Nashville Center is located at 6604 Centennial Blvd. in Nashville. Previously in Davidson County, reinstatements were available only at the Foster Avenue office location.  That center will close, Thursday, November 1st.

“Allowing customers to reinstate their license at driver license centers rather than reinstatement offices is a better and more convenient service for returning to the road,” said Deputy Commissioner Greta Dajani.

Also effective November 1st, the Summer Avenue Reinstatement Office in Memphis will close. Now, customers in this area will be able to visit the full-service Summer Avenue Driver License Center, located next door at 6340 Summer Avenue, for all reinstatement services.  Reinstatements will also be available at the Midtown office located at 2714 Union Extended.

Also effective November 1st, customers in the Knoxville area will be able to visit the Strawberry Plains Driver License Center, located at 7320 Region Lane in Knoxville, for reinstatements. This change will allow the Department of Safety to better serve customers at a more convenient, one-stop-shop location. The Maryville Reinstatement Office will be close, Thursday, November 1st.

The purpose of integrating financial responsibility functions into driver license centers is to make the services more accessible to the public and ease the ability to regain the privilege to drive.  Some of the most common reasons a license is suspended or revoked is due to a DUI conviction, failure to pay driving citations and failure to show proof of insurance.  In the Knoxville area alone, the Tennessee Department of Safety reinstates approximately 9-thousand drivers annually.

Drivers wanting to reinstate their license are also urged to call the Toll Free number at (866) 903-7357 or visit our website at www.tennesseeanytime.org/tndlr or www.tennessee.gov to determine precisely what information and documentation is necessary for reinstatement before visiting the Driver License Centers. Motorists can also pay reinstatement fees using a credit or debit card at these websites.  Tennesseans with a suspended or revoked license will need documentation such as proof of insurance (SR-22 Insurance form) and proof of citations and fees paid in order to successfully reinstate their license.  Documentation evidencing United States citizenship, Lawful Permanent Residency or an authorized stay in country is also required to reinstate a driver license. The requirements of reinstatement are based on the reason the driver license was suspended/revoked.
