TN Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners Suspends License of Gallatin Veterinarian

The Tennessee Department of Health announces that the Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners has summarily suspended the license of William E. Baber, DVM, of Gallatin. As a result of the suspension, Baber is immediately prohibited from practicing veterinary medicine in the state.

Baber’s license was suspended for the following:

  • engaging in gross malpractice or a pattern of continued or repeated malpractice, ignorance, negligence, or incompetence in the course of practicing veterinary medicine;
  • unprofessional or unethical conduct or engaging in practices in connection with the practice of veterinary medicine that are in violation of the standards of professional conduct;
  • conduct reflecting unfavorably upon the profession of veterinary medicine;
  • professional incompetence; and
  • leaving non-livestock animals unattended during euthanasia procedures and before death occurs, and not confirming death before the body is disposed of.

An informal conference to determine whether the health, safety or welfare of the public required the emergency action of the Board is scheduled for November 14 at 2:30 p.m., CT. Baber has also been ordered to appear at a hearing before the Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners on December 13 at 9 a.m., CT, where the Board will decide whether to suspend, revoke or impose any other disciplinary action against Baber’s license or his facility, the South Water Animal Hospital.

Baber was originally licensed to practice veterinary medicine in Tennessee in 1982.
