Board of Medical Examiners Suspends License of Hendersonville Physician

Thursday, December 20, 2007 | 06:00pm

The Tennessee Department of Health announced that the Board of Medical Examiners has summarily suspended the medical license of Dr. Richard L. Hubbell, M.D., of Hendersonville, effective December 17, 2007. As a result of the suspension, Hubbell is immediately prohibited from practicing medicine in the state.

The Board has scheduled an informal conference for December 26, 2007 at 3 p.m. CST, for the physician to present his version of the situation.  The sole issue at the informal hearing will be whether the public health, safety or welfare imperatively required emergency action. Hubble is not required to appear or participate in the informal conference.  Additionally, a Board hearing to conduct a full contested case in this matter has been set for January 23, 2008.

Hubbell’s license was suspended for:

  • unprofessional, dishonorable and unethical conduct;
  • actual or attempted violation, or assisting, abetting or conspiracy to violate orders of the board and/or any criminal statue of the state;
  • habitual intoxication, personal misuse of any drugs or the use of intoxicating liquors, narcotics, controlled substances or other drugs or stimulants in such a manner as to adversely affect the person’s ability to practice medicine; and
  • engaging in the practice of medicine when mentally or physically unable to safely do so.

Hubbell was originally licensed to practice medicine in Tennessee in 1993.
