Nashville, Tenn. – The Tennessee Historical Commission is now accepting nominations for its Certificate of Merit Awards, which will be presented to individuals or groups who worked to preserve Tennessee’s cultural heritage during 2006.

The awards program is part of Historic Preservation Month set for May 2007. Historic Preservation Month is sponsored by the National Trust for Historic Preservation, the Tennessee Historical Commission and other preservation organizations.

The 2007 theme for Historic Preservation Month is “Preservation Works!”

“Although Historic Preservation Month focuses on efforts to preserve and restore historic structures, the Tennessee Historical Commission is also interested in recognizing activities in the areas of publication, commemoration, education, and any other efforts to preserve our history and heritage,” said Interim Director Richard G. Tune.
