July 2007 Unemployment Figures - County

NASHVILLE – Tennessee’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for July 2007, released last week, remained unchanged from the June rate of 4.1 percent. The United States rate was 4.6 percent for July, an increase of 0.1 percent from June.

County non-seasonally adjusted unemployment rates for July 2007, released today, show that all the counties experienced changes.  There were 17 counties that increased and 78 counties decreased.

Knox County registered the state’s lowest county unemployment rate at 3.0 percent, down from 3.3 percent in June.  Maury County had the state’s highest at 8.6 percent, down from 8.7 in June, followed by Weakley County at 8.1 percent, 0.8 percent increase from 7.3 in June.

Knoxville had the state’s lowest major metropolitan statistical area (MSA) rate at 3.1 percent, which decreased from 3.4 percent in June. The Nashville-Murfreesboro MSA was 3.4 percent, down from 3.7 in June; the Chattanooga MSA was 3.8 percent, down from 3.9 percent; and the Memphis MSA was 4.8 percent, down from 5.0 percent.
