NASHVILLE – Governor Phil Bredesen and Tennessee Department of Labor & Workforce Development Commissioner James Neeley have awarded $107,801 to the Nashville Career Advancement Center in Nashville to be used for Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) training in Rutherford County.

The money is from the Statewide Activity Grant for Skills Shortages and will fund LPN training for 20 individuals. Classroom training will be held at the Tennessee Technology Center at Murfreesboro, and clinical training will be performed at National Healthcare Corporation facilities.

“I am pleased to award this grant to the Nashville Career Advancement Center to help address the shortage of LPNs and to benefit healthcare employers in Rutherford County,” said Governor Bredesen.

“I am proud to award this grant money to enhance training opportunities for nursing,” said Commissioner Neeley. “Healthcare is a demand occupation with shortages across the state and the nation.”

“We appreciate this grant and would like to thank Commissioner Neeley and Governor Bredesen for their continued support in solving the nursing shortage in Tennessee. Partnering with the National Healthcare Corporation and Tennessee Technology Center in Murfreesboro, we will continue to demonstrate that a public/private partnership can address the needs of area employers,” said Paul Haynes, executive director for the Nashville Career Advancement Center.
