Tuesday, October 14, 2008 | 04:07am

NASHVILLE - The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Commission will hold its October meeting in Kingsport at the Meadowview Conference Resort and Convention Center. Committee meetings will be conducted during the afternoon of Oct. 22, beginning at 1 p.m., Eastern time. The TWRC meeting will begin at 9 a.m. on Oct. 23.

Proposed changes in the sport fish proclamation will be presented by Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency Fisheries Division chief, Bill Reeves. The only change from the original proposal that was presented at the August TWRC meeting is that a 30 fish creel limit on crappie is being proposed for all Region 1 waters (except for the Mississippi River where the creel limit is 50).  Size limits on crappie may vary on different water bodies within the Region.

An update of the elk program will be provided, including preliminary planning for Tennessee’s first elk hunt in the fall of 2009, and the status of the Special Elk Take Permit to go to a non-profit wildlife conservation organization. Also, to be discussed is the potential for additional reintroductions of elk from Elk Island National Park, Canada.

Further discussion will be held concerning the introduction of fishing to junior high and high school youth through participating in fishing clubs.

TWRC serves as the governing body for the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency. The meetings are open to the public.
