Statement by Commissioner Dave Mitchell

NASHVILLE --- Commissioner Dave Mitchell denies any broad assertions contained in a lawsuit filed today in Davidson County Circuit Court.

“I strongly refute any accusations which attempt to discredit the character of the hardworking men and women in the department,” said Commissioner Dave Mitchell.  “It troubles the department that someone who was highly trained to teach workplace harassment did not follow departmental procedures.”
 
The Department of Safety strictly forbids and will not tolerate harassment of any employee and depends upon its highly trained employees to ensure that departmental policies are followed to prevent a hostile or offensive work environment.
 
The Tennessee Department of Safety’s mission is (www.tennessee.gov/safety) to ensure the safety and general welfare of the public. The department encompasses the Tennessee Highway Patrol, Office of Homeland Security and Driver License Services. General areas of responsibility include law enforcement, safety education, motorist services and terrorism prevention.
