NASHVILLE --- Tennessee Department of Safety (TDOS) Commissioner Dave Mitchell today appointed Michael Hogan as Director of the TDOS Driver Services Division.

Hogan has served as Interim Director since the departure of Wanda Moore, who retired after serving as Director from 2006-08. Prior to that Hogan served as Director of the TDOS Office of Strategic Planning from October 2004 to July 2008.

“Michael Hogan has served with distinction in the Department of Safety by helping TDOS measure performance and the direct strategic planning process at a critical time,” said Commissioner Mitchell. “I am pleased that he will be contributing both his private and public sector experience to improve customer service at driver license service centers and overseeing the future implementation of REAL ID.”

Prior to being appointed as Interim Director, Hogan provided significant leadership during changes to the overall structure of the department that improved efficiency and effectiveness of TDOS operations, which were the result of a 2006 independent operational review. Additionally, as Director of the Office of Strategic Planning, Hogan worked with the agency’s executive leadership to establish performance standards and measures that outline the goals and strategies of the department. He also serves as a consultant and facilitator for various management initiatives, including implementation of the REAL ID Act, customer service plans and internet applications development.

Hogan came to the Department of Safety in October 2004 following 11 years of financial services experience in the private sector, including four years as Assistant Vice President for State Street Bank in Nashville.

Hogan, 41, is a native of Nashville, Tenn. and holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. He is a military veteran and served in the Marine Corps from 1987 to 1993, including service as a Platoon Leader during Operation Desert Storm and Desert Shield. Hogan serves on the Board of Volunteer Tennessee, which encourages volunteerism and community service in the Volunteer State, and has also served as a Board member for the Nashville Downtown YMCA.

Hogan and his wife, Tina, have three children, ages 5, 12 and 17.
