MEDIA ADVISORY: K-9 Graduation

NASHVILLE --- The Tennessee Department of Safety will welcome several new members to the Tennessee Highway Patrol when it holds a graduation ceremony for six K-9 officers and their handlers on Thursday, December 11, 2008. The K-9 graduation will be held at 1:00 p.m., at the Tennessee Highway Patrol Training Center located at 275 Stewarts Ferry Pike in Nashville.

For the past 11 weeks, the six new K-9 Officers have participated in specialized training to become drug detecting dogs and will be utilized throughout the state by the Tennessee Highway Patrol to search for illegal narcotics. One of the K-9 officers is also trained as a patrol dog, which is used for searching, tracking, locating evidence and apprehending suspects. The graduating class consists of two German Shepherds, two Malinois, and two Labrador Retrievers, including one that was adopted from the Nashville Humane Association.
