TDOS Promotes Joel Deal to Memphis District Captain

NASHVILLE---The Tennessee Department of Safety today announced the promotion of Joel Deal as the new Captain over the Memphis District.   A native of Dyersburg, Tennessee, in Dyer County, Captain Deal has served as the Administrative Lieutenant in the Memphis District since December of 2006.    

“I have spent the last 20 years of my career with the Tennessee Highway Patrol in the Memphis District,” said Captain Deal. “This is my home, and I look forward to leading a team of dedicated men and women who are dedicated to keeping our community safe.”
 
Commissioned as a Trooper in September 1980, Deal first worked as a Road Trooper in Montgomery County in the Nashville District. The following year, he was transferred to Haywood County. Captain Deal resigned from the department in 1982 to work in the private-sector, but returned to the Tennessee Highway Patrol five years later. He served as a Trooper in Dickson, Lake and Dyer counties before being promoted in 2002 to the rank of Sergeant in Lauderdale County.  
 
Captain Deal is a 2004 graduate of the Northwestern School of Police Staff and Command. He is trained in Traffic Crash Reconstruction and Advanced Traffic Crash Investigation. Captain Deal is a 1976 graduate of Dyersburg High School. He and his wife, Helen, have been married for 19 years. They and their two daughters live in his hometown of Dyersburg.
