Department Reminds Motorists to Be Safe In Work Zones Despite Work Stop

Nashville, Tenn. - The Tennessee Department of Transportation will stop all interstate construction work this Easter weekend in anticipation of increased holiday travel.

TDOT Commissioner Gerald Nicely informed TDOT crews and contractors to stop all road construction work which requires lane closures beginning at 6:00 p.m., Thursday, March 20 through the early morning hours of Monday, March 24.  This will provide maximum roadway capacity to motorists expected to travel across the state this holiday weekend.

“The Easter holiday is coupled with the end of Spring Break for many this year, so we anticipate a large number of vehicles on the roads,” said Nicely, “It’s imperative that we minimize interruptions and do our best to keep traffic flowing.”

Motorists will still encounter some long term lane closures on construction projects that will remain in place.  Drivers should obey all posted speed limits, particularly in construction zones, even when workers are not present.  The slower speeds are necessary due to the temporary layout of the roadway in construction zones and will be strictly enforced.
